The City of Hoboken today announced that it will receive funding in the amount of $1 million as part of New Jersey’s Fiscal Year 2026 State Budget to support the development of Maritime Park on Hoboken’s waterfront.

The allocation is the result of collaborative efforts between Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla, City officials, and Assemblyman John Allen (D-32), who applied for capital funding for Maritime Park as one of his discretionary budget requests this year.  

“This funding is a tremendous boost for our efforts to create a world-class waterfront park that honors Hoboken’s maritime heritage while expanding access to natural open space for our residents,” said Mayor Bhalla. “Maritime Park will be more than just a park, it will be a legacy project that connects the community and enhances residents’ quality of life for generations to come. I thank Assemblyman John Allen and the Murphy administration for recognizing the importance of this investment in Hoboken’s future.”

“Once completed, Maritime Park will be an exceptional and resilient destination on our Hoboken waterfront — a space our community and visitors alike can enjoy year-round. I’m grateful to the Speaker’s Office for supporting my budget request and helping secure $1 million toward making this vision a reality,” said Assemblyman Allen.

“Parks help improve a community's quality of life, especially during these summer months. Through Hudson County's Open Space Trust Fund, I worked with the Board of Commissioners and Board Chairman Anthony Romano in awarding $250,000 to help fund the development of Maritime Park,” said Hudson County Executive Craig Guy. “I am committed to working with our partners in city and state government to continue to provide funding for upgrades to our parks and green spaces in Hoboken and throughout Hudson County.”

“Maritime Park will provide a new skatepark and waterfront waterway to allow residents to enjoy the beautiful views of Manhattan,” said Hudson County Board of Commissioners Chairman Anthony L. Romano. “I was proud to work with County Executive Guy in awarding funding for this development through the Open Space Trust Fund, and I will continue working to provide upgrades to both our city and county parks here in Hoboken and Hudson County.”

Located along the northern waterfront at the former Union Dry Dock site, the 8.7-acre park will feature a host of public amenities designed to celebrate Hoboken’s historic connection to the Hudson River while offering spaces for recreation and education.  

Planned features of Maritime Park include:

• A resilient green open space with native plantings
• A waterfront walkway and bike paths that connect to the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway
• Interactive educational exhibits on maritime history and the local ecosystem
• A public plaza inspired by the Palisades
• A community building with meeting and exhibit space
• An expanded beach for paddle boats and other users  
• An accessible living shoreline of natural marshes and tide pools to restore natural habitats and allow for educational opportunities
• A large flexible lawn  
• A new skatepark with both street and transition/bowl style features
• A playground and family-friendly areas featuring natural materials and structures

With construction of Maritime Park scheduled to begin by the end of this year, the $1 million in State funding is supplemented by two $250,000 grants from the Hudson County Open Space Trust Fund. The Administration will also seek City Council approval for a bond, financed through the City’s Open Space Trust Fund, among other grants and external funding opportunities to offset construction costs in order to bring the park to fruition.
