The Hoboken Fire Department protects the lives and property of the residents of Hoboken from fires, natural disasters, hazardous materials releases, medical distress, and rescue emergencies.

About Us

The Fire Division consists of 118 firefighters and 19 civilian employees.  HFD responds to over 5,000 emergencies per year with one tour commander, 3 engine companies, 2 ladder companies, and one rescue.  We have an operations officer and training officer.

The Hoboken Fire Division also participates in regional response initiatives: the New Jersey Regional Fireboat Task Force (NJRFTF) for maritime emergencies and the Urban Area Security Initiative Metro Urban Search and Rescue Strike Team (UASI MUST) for technical rescues.  Through these task forces, the HFD maintains a fireboat and a heavy rescue company.

Our fire prevention bureau includes a fire marshal, 2 full-time fire inspectors and 2 part-time fire inspectors.  The Bureau serves to improve community resilience through 4 avenues:

  • Enforcement of fire codes
  • Education about fire safety
  • Engineering improved solutions to mitigate emergencies
  • Investigation of the origin and cause of fires

Call 201-420-2004 to contact HFD Dispatch. Call 201-420-2268 for fire inspection or code enforcement questions. For more information, follow us on Twitter at @hobokenfire.
