The City of Hoboken remains under a State of Emergency and travel advisory due to the Winter Storm Warning that has impacted our area with heavy snow and ice. The City’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) strongly advises against all non-essential travel during the storm and asks all those walking to remain on the sidewalk. Due to icy conditions, roads are slick and vehicles may have difficulty stopping.
Please stay off the roads to allow public works teams to clear snow to restore safe roadway conditions.

Garage discount extended
The City’s Department of Transportation and Parking has extended the discounted garage parking rate through Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 4 p.m.
Those who have parked in Municipal Garage B, Garage D, or the Midtown Garage, which are at capacity, at the discounted $5 rate per 24-hour period, should remove their car by 4 p.m., Tuesday. Those who do not will be charged the regular hourly rate for any time in the garage after 4 p.m. Tuesday upon leaving.
To avoid delays exiting the garages, please plan to exit early, as lines can form when the discounted rate ends.
Contact PSE&G in case of power outage
Heavy and thick ice can damage power lines and cause power outages. Please report power outages and downed wires to PSEG at https://nj.myaccount.pseg.com/myservicepublic/outagepublic, texting OUT to 4PSEG (47734), or call 1-800-436-PSEG (7734).
If you see downed utility lines or trees, call the Hoboken Fire Department dispatch number at 201-420-2004. Do not approach downed power lines.
Keep Sidewalks & Curb Ramps Clear
While property owners and occupants have six (6) hours after the completion of a storm to remove snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property, along with adjoining curb ramps or curb cuts, residents are encouraged to get ahead of shoveling efforts, as ice may get heavier as the storm continues.
The Hoboken Fire Department is also asking residents with hydrants near their homes to clear three feet of snow from around, and a path to the hydrant. This will allow firefighters quick access during emergencies, instead of clearing snow.
Please hydrate and use caution when shoveling, as well as assist elderly or disabled neighbors with clearing snow from their properties. It is illegal to shovel snow back onto streets or onto fire hydrants.
The City will have extra inspectors on hand to conduct sidewalks inspections but also relies on citizen complaints to help identify property owners that are not meeting sidewalk safety requirements. While most property owners comply with the safety regulations, the City will issue fines to those who do not keep sidewalks clear.
To report an un-shoveled sidewalk, please email sanitationinspectors@hobokennj.gov.
Shoveling safety tips
National Safety Council recommends the following tips to shovel safely:
Emergency Snow Routes in effect
Snow emergency routes are continuing to be enforced with ticketing and towing. Do not park on emergency snow routes. This is necessary to allow for effective snow removal operations and to allow for emergency vehicles to move throughout Hoboken for the safety and welfare of all residents.
Emergency snow routes in Hoboken are labeled with street signs that read “No Parking When Road Is Snow Covered.” A map of emergency snow routes is available on the City’s website: www.hobokennj.gov/snow and are listed below.
Snow emergency routes will remain in place until the Office of Emergency Management declares them clear and releases them for parking. This will not occur until after snowfall stops, the streets are plowed sufficiently, and to the extent that parking will not interfere with the flow of traffic for emergency operations.
As a reminder, Temporary No-Parking signs are in effect on the east side of Grand Street between Third and Eighth Streets. This will allow plows to clear snow toward the curbline for removal. If snow is not cleared, it can prevent vehicles from parking within the parking lane, causing them to encroach into the travel lane and block the flow of traffic, including emergency vehicles. Once the snow is cleared and signs are removed by the Hoboken Parking Utility, parking will be allowed.
