The City of Hoboken removed two capsized boats from the Weehawken Cove on Monday that posed a public safety risk.“Thanks to everyone involved in making sure the boats were removed as quickly as possible,” said Mayor Ravinder S. Bhalla. “While the City of Hoboken is prepared to step in when necessary, boat owners must take personal responsibility for their property and the impact it can have on the community.”
The owners of the boats will be billed for their removal, a total cost of approximately $15,200.The City of Hoboken is aware of four additional sunken boats that remain in the cove. They will be removed as well. Because they do not pose an immediate public safety risk, the process for removal involves coordinating with various state and federal agencies.
