City of Hoboken seeks to award $1 million in Community Development Block Grants to support local nonprofits and public housing

Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla and the City of Hoboken today announced the anticipated allocation of over $1 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to support a range of local nonprofit organizations as well as critical infrastructure improvements at the Hoboken Housing Authority (HHA).

The largest allocation, totaling approximately $685,000, will go to the Hoboken Housing Authority for two essential capital improvement projects: the replacement of aging boilers and to enhance security infrastructure across HHA’s buildings for senior and disabled residents including Fox Hill Gardens, Monroe Gardens, and Adams Gardens.

“From upgrading housing infrastructure to helping young people prepare for college and providing vital care services, this funding will have a lasting impact on the well-being of our entire community,” said Mayor Bhalla. “These organizations are pillars of our community, and this funding helps them do what they do best: lift people up, create opportunities, and ensure that no one is left behind in Hoboken. I am proud that we can support them in their missions.”

“I extend my enthusiastic thanks to Mayor Ravi Bhalla and the entire City Council for working to award CDBG funds to the Hoboken Housing Authority,” said HHA Executive Director Marc Recko. “These funds will focus on two badly needed projects to assure the safety and quality of life for HHA Residents: the installation of needed security cameras at our Fox Hill site and the refurbishment of boiler systems at our Andrew Jackson and Harrison sites. I greatly appreciate the strong partnership between the City of Hoboken and HHA in assuring the continued safety and winter warmth of our HHA families.”

In addition to the Hoboken Housing Authority, the following local nonprofit organizations were selected to receive CDBG funding to continue or expand critical community programs:

The City of Hoboken administers federal CDBG funds annually to qualified organizations that provide critical services and infrastructure improvements benefiting low- and moderate-income residents.

The Hoboken City Council is scheduled to vote on the CDBG awards during their regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, July 9, at 7 p.m.
