Mayor Bhalla encourages qualified professionals to apply to lead Union Dry Dock park public planning process

Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla today encouraged qualified design firms to submit proposals for the redesign of the former Union Dry Dock site into a public waterfront park. The deadline to apply was extended today by the City to Jan. 19.

Last month, after acquiring the property from New York Waterway, the City released a request for proposals (RFP) to solicit firms to present design options for the park, which will be named Maritime Park, honoring Hoboken’s historical past as a working waterfront. The selected firm will work with the Bhalla administration to launch a robust public planning process to obtain input from residents and community stakeholders to design a public park with amenities that are reflective of the community’s needs.

Submissions to the RFP are now due on Jan. 19. To request the RFP, email purchasing@hobokennj.gov.

Following the evaluation of submitted proposals, Mayor Bhalla anticipates asking the Hoboken City Council to approve a qualified firm in February.

“This property has all the makings of a world-class park that will become the crown jewel of our waterfront,” said Mayor Bhalla. “I encourage any qualified professional design firms to submit proposals for the chance to work with us as we design a landmark park to serve our residents for generations to come. I look forward to working with the community this year as we move forward with connecting this final piece to our publicly accessible waterfront.”
