Hoboken Green Team launches 2019 green business initiatives

The Hoboken Green Team has launched several green initiatives in the City of Hoboken, including an invitation to apply for Green Business Recognition, opportunities to join the upcoming Green Fair, participate in the hydration station program, and to join the City’s composting pilot program.

Hoboken Businesses Invited to Apply for 2019 Green Business Recognition Program

The Hoboken Green Business Recognition Program distinguishes local businesses that are advancing sustainability and environmental responsibility in our community. Businesses in Hoboken are invited to apply for recognition in 2019 by completing the application at www.hobokennj.gov/greenbusiness.

This is an annual application process to track progress in sustainability efforts; each business must reapply annually for recognition. The pledge takes less than five minutes and should be completed by April 20, 2019. The Green Team will review all submissions and recommend businesses for recognition at the 8th annual Hoboken Green Fair on June 8, 2019.

Hoboken Green Businesses will receive a Hoboken Green Business sticker to display at their storefront; a digital version of the Hoboken Green Business sticker to post on their website; recognition as a Hoboken Green Business at the 2019 Hoboken Green Fair; a press release that will be distributed via the City Nixle emails, website, and social media; a "Green Business Spotlight" on the Hoboken Green Team Instagram page; a free space at the 2018 Hoboken Green Fair; and recognition as a Hoboken Green Business on the Hoboken website.

Vendors Invited to Register for 8th Annual Green Fair

The City of Hoboken Green Team will host the 8th Annual Green Fair on Saturday, June 8, 2019. Interested vendors can register at www.hobokennj.gov/greenfair.

The 8th Annual Green Fair will be held from 11am to 3pm at Church Square Park, entering from the corner of Fourth Street and Garden Street, and will feature live music and organic food vendors. It is intended to introduce sustainable lifestyle choices to the community, raise awareness regarding environmental issues, and demonstrate how consumers can reduce their impact on the earth by selecting sustainable, eco-friendly products and services.

Green businesses or non-profits whose mission aligns with environmental sustainability are invited to participate in the Green Fair. The Green Team also welcomes the local arts community.

The final day for registration is Monday, June 3, 2019.

Hoboken Launches Hydration Station Program

The Hoboken Hydration Station Program is an initiative by the Hoboken Green Team to reduce the amount of single-use plastic water bottles in our City. Participating local businesses (restaurants, cafes, bars, etc.) will now allow you to refill your reusable water bottle – for FREE! Look for a Hoboken Hydration Station sticker in the storefront window to identify participating businesses. For a full list of Hydration Stations visit www.hobokennj.gov/hydration.

Businesses and Schools Invited to Join Composting Pilot Program

The City of Hoboken and Community Compost Company offers FREE curbside pickup of food scraps services to local businesses and schools. If your business would like to learn more about FREE compost pickup, visit www.hobokennj.gov/compost.
