City of Hoboken & Hoboken Green Team launch annual Green Business Recognition Program

The City of Hoboken and the Hoboken Green Team are now accepting applications for the annual Hoboken Green Business Recognition Program that recognizes local businesses demonstrating a commitment to environmental stewardship and responsibility.

The program encourages local businesses of all sizes to adopt sustainable practices while highlighting their leadership in Hoboken's growing green economy. Businesses interested in participating are encouraged to submit their applications by July 20 at  https://seam.ly/C0NG5YcM. Recognized Green Businesses will be honored during the Hoboken Green Fair on Saturday, Aug. 15, at Church Square Park at 11 a.m.

“The Green Business Recognition Program reflects Hoboken's commitment to sustainability and our belief that local businesses are important partners in building a healthier, more resilient community,” said Mayor Emily B. Jabbour. “By recognizing businesses that embrace environmentally responsible practices, we're celebrating the innovation and leadership that help make Hoboken a more sustainable place to live, work, and shop.”

Businesses that complete the free certification process will receive:

  • A Green Business decal to display at their storefront
  • A digital Green Business decal for websites and social media
  • Complimentary vendor space at the Hoboken Green Fair
  • Recognition and promotion on the City of Hoboken's website

Businesses must complete a brief checklist highlighting environmentally friendly practices to be considered for the program in areas such as:

  • Energy reduction
  • Responsible sourcing and consumption
  • Water conservation
  • Sustainable transportation

“The Hoboken Business Alliance is proud to support the Green Business Recognition Program, and we encourage our local businesses to participate,” said James Runkle, President of the Hoboken Business Alliance Board of Trustees. “This initiative not only recognizes businesses making meaningful sustainability efforts, but also demonstrates to residents and visitors that Hoboken's business community is committed to creating an environmentally responsible local economy.”

The Hoboken Green Fair on Aug. 15 will bring together residents, local businesses, community organizations, and environmental partners for an afternoon celebrating sustainability.

The fair will feature environmental education, interactive activities for youth, sustainable products and services, community resources, live music, and opportunities to learn about the City of Hoboken’s green initiatives and efforts of the Hoboken Green Team, a volunteer organization dedicated to advancing sustainability initiatives in Hoboken.

Certified Green Businesses will be recognized during the event and have the opportunity to showcase their organizations as Green Fair vendors.
