The City of Hoboken and the Hoboken Green Team invite residents and visitors to shop the citywide gate sale this Saturday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. With more than 100 community members registered to sell at Church Square Park and more than 80 additional sellers participating throughout Hoboken, the event will offer shoppers an opportunity to discover unique secondhand items while supporting reuse and sustainability.
The Hoboken Gate Sale will feature a wide variety of gently used goods, including furniture, clothing, artwork, toys, dishware, home décor, and more. Sellers will set up at Church Square Park and at their own gates or stoops throughout the city, giving residents an opportunity to find new homes for items they no longer need and connect with neighbors.
GreenDrop will also be available at Church Square Park for community members who wish to donate eligible items to charity. The donation opportunity provides another opportunity for residents to extend the useful life of their belongings and keep gently used items out of landfills.
“Every item we reuse or donate is an opportunity to reduce waste and make more sustainable choices as a community,” said Mayor Emily B. Jabbour. “Hoboken’s Gate Sale turns our sustainability goals into meaningful, everyday action by helping residents give their belongings a second life, reduce what goes into the waste stream, and connect with one another. Initiatives like this support our Climate Action Plan and our long-term commitment to a greener, more resilient Hoboken.”
The citywide gate sale supports the City’s Climate Action Plan, which includes goals of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero energy by 2030. Reusing household goods and clothing can help reduce waste and the greenhouse gas emissions associated with landfill disposal, as well as the production and transportation of new products.
