Mayor Emily B. Jabbour and the City of Hoboken today announced the allocation of nearly $1 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to support a range of local nonprofit organizations and senior facilities.
"These investments are about improving people's everyday lives," said Mayor Jabbour. "Through the allocation of these federal funds we are making housing safer for seniors, expanding access to educational opportunities, supporting families, and ensuring our neighbors experiencing homelessness can access critical services. Together, this support will strengthen the available network of care that so many Hoboken residents rely on."
The following local organizations were selected to receive CDBG funding to continue or expand critical community programs and investments:
- The Hoboken Shelter – $42,500 for operating support
- Community Lifestyles – $35,466 for summer camp
- Hoboken Family Planning – $10,000 for its Family Planning Clinic
- Hoboken Community Center – $10,000 for the Personal Care Pantry and $50,000 for HVAC improvements
- Act Now Foundation – $10,000 for the Alzheimer’s Care Project
- Street Life Ministry – $10,000 for homelessness outreach
- Hoboken Public Education Foundation – $10,000 for advancing college access and long-term economic opportunity
- Lunch Time Ministry – $10,000 for soup kitchen operations
- United Children’s Music Project – $10,000 for summer music education
CDBG funding will also support key capital investments to improve local facilities, including senior housing and senior services. The following locations will receive CDBG funding for capital improvements:
- Boys & Girls Club/ HoLa – $30,000 for HVAC and electrical improvements
- Hoboken Housing Authority – $401,186 for Fox Hill security improvements and $190,000 for Monroe Gardens parking gates
- Multi-Service Center – $70,000 for HVAC improvements
The City of Hoboken administers federal CDBG funds annually to qualified organizations that provide critical services and infrastructure improvements benefiting low- and moderate-income residents.
