Council Approved 5G Node Installation

Thank you for visiting this informational page regarding the installation of small wireless facilities and poles (collectively, the “Facilities”) throughout the City of Hoboken (the “City”). As you may be aware, the United States Government is committed to the rapid deployment of 5G technology throughout the Country. As such, the Federal Communications Commission issued orders (“Applicable Law”) to facilitate the installation of 5G technology by limiting the ability of local governments to regulate the installation of Facilities within their municipal Right-of-Way (“ROW”).

On October 21, 2020, the City passed Ordinance No. B-289 (the “Ordinance”) which provides for the management of the City’s ROW by regulating the placement of, and establishing an approval process for, Facilities within the parameters of Applicable Law. However, the applications for many of the Facilities currently being installed were submitted prior to the City’s adoption of the Ordinance and are, therefore, not subject to the requirements of the Ordinance.
