The City of Hoboken today announced it has successfully earned silver-level certification from Sustainable Jersey for the fourth year, meeting rigorous requirements to achieve the prestigious allocation for its sustainability initiatives and policies. While there are 466 Sustainable Jersey registered municipalities, only 70 municipalities across the state, including Hoboken, achieved the advanced silver certification.
Certified towns were announced at the Sustainable Jersey Annual Luncheon on Nov. 14, 2023, in Atlantic City at the New Jersey State League of Municipalities Conference. During the event, Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla was also awarded the Mayor Art Ondish Leadership award for providing the Hoboken Green Team with policy support and the necessary resources to achieve significant success towards sustainability.

"This recognition is a testament to the tireless efforts of our community, City staff, and the dedication of our Green Team. Certified towns excelled in areas such as improving energy efficiency, health, and wellness, reducing waste, sustaining local economies, protecting natural resources, and advancing the arts.
The City of Hoboken’s sustainability initiatives include the residential composting drop-off program, the City’s textile recycling drop-off program, installation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, Hoboken’s renewable energy program, and the new community solar program with the Hoboken Housing Authority, among others.
