Handicap Reserved Parking Permit (Permit Symbol: H)

Residents who qualify for this permit are provided a reserved parking space in close proximity to their home marked with blue striping and a regulatory handicapped sign that restricts parking to a designated, current New Jersey handicapped license plate.  Vehicles parked in a reserved handicapped parking spaces must have a Resident parking permit and must observe posted street cleaning periods or temporary/emergency restrictions.  Reserved handicapped parking permits are issued to Hoboken residents on an annual basis as a placard and expire at 11:59 PM on the last day of their validity.  A thorough review by a committee appointed by the City Council is conducted for all applications submitted. There is an initial fee of $130 for this permit application, refundable if the application is denied.  The annual renewal fee is $25/year. Documentation Requirements: [RS or RC] AND [VS, VC, or VL].

Disabled Parking Application Checklist

To be in compliance with City Ordinance B-417 granting parking for Person with Disabilities, you must submit the following documents along with your application and meet the following criteria:

  • Copy of a valid New Jersey Driver’s License indicating a Hoboken address.
  • Copy of a valid Disabled Person Identification Card and Placard.
  • Copy of a valid vehicle registration indicating disabled status as issued by the State of New Jersey, Division of Motor Vehicles.
  • Indicate that you transport or are the parent or legal guardian of a developmentally disabled child residing on a full-time basis within the same household.
  • Must NOT have a driveway, carport, garage, or off-street space available for personal use.
  • Have lost the use of 1 or more limbs because of paralysis, amputation, or other PERMANENT disability with severely limited ambulation.
  • Include all medical information pertinent to your disability and a doctor’s statement attesting to your permanent disability.
  • Understand that you may be asked to appear before the reviewing subcommittee.
  • Understand that you may be asked to submit to a medical examination by a physician chosen by the subcommittee.
  • Understand that the Subcommittee meets monthly to review applications.
  • Submit the $130 processing fee made to the Hoboken Parking Utility.(Fee can be refunded 10 days after the final decision is made).
  • Understand that upon approval of reserved parking zone by the City Council, you must submit an annual renewal application along with a copy of your valid driver’s license, registration, and placard for a fee of $25.

**NOTE: The owner of the vehicle must be the applicant.**
